Exam Snacks: Three Cottage Cheese Bowls

Photos by Rebecca Joffe ’29.

As exam season nears, we all need quick, high-protein snacks. These cottage cheese bowls are simple, nutritious and filling. They are easy to assemble and you can customize them. You only need a bowl and the ingredients. No extra dishwashing needed! I roughly measured the ingredients, so feel free to measure to your heart’s desire!

Berry Bowl

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup cottage cheese (I’m using Daisy 2% Cottage Cheese)
  • ½ cup of berries
  • ½ tsp. pumpkin seeds
  • Honey, to taste
  • A dash of cinnamon

The berry bowl is one of my go-to combinations because there’s no preparation necessary; you can just throw the ingredients together! The honey and berries complement the mild flavor of the cottage cheese.

Peanut Crunch Bowl

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup cottage cheese
  • 1 tbsp. crunchy peanut butter
  • ¼ cup cereal of your choice (I used Seven Sundays Real Cocoa Sunflower Cereal)
  • ½ tsp. chia seeds (soaked in water)
  • ½ apple

The peanut crunch bowl is perfect for peanut butter and apple lovers! To prepare the bowl, cut the apple into bite-sized pieces, and add the remaining toppings to the cottage cheese. Soak the chia seeds in one tbsp. of warm water. Let the mixture sit for about ten minutes before adding it to the bowl. The apples and cereal satisfyingly crunch and contrast the creaminess of the cottage cheese.

Veggie Bowl

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup cottage cheese
  • ⅔ of an avocado
  • Pinch of salt
  • ⅛ tsp. pepper
  • ⅛ tsp. paprika
  • ⅛ tsp. garlic powder
  • Lemon juice
  • Vegetables of your choice; I used tomatoes, bell peppers and carrots

To make the dip, mash the avocado, and mix the mashed avocado into the cottage cheese. Add salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder and lemon juice, to taste. The veggie bowl is a higher-protein version of a classic guacamole and vegetable dip. Make this one if you’re craving a fresh and savory snack.
