Students threw dyed powder into the air to celebrate the Hindu holiday Holi on March 14. Following a presentation about Holi from the South Asian Affinity group and a brief advisory break, high school students headed to the lower/middle school field. Holi honors the victory of good over evil and the coming of the spring season. New this year, both high school and middle school students participated in the dye throwing, but they were divided on opposite sides of the field. South Asian Affinity head senior Laila Bapna said the group invited middle school students to join the celebration this year because they heard that middle school students enjoy the annual middle school Holi assembly. High school students didn’t wait for administrators’ signal to begin throwing dye. When a few students prematurely opened their dye packets, a chain reaction ensued and powder clouds blanketed the high school side. Many students’ white shirts were then covered in an assortment of bright colors including orange, pink and green. Middle school students threw their dyed powder minutes later.
