The SSC bulletin is a weekly article covering the events at each Monday’s council meeting.
The Student Staff Council (SSC) convened on Monday with full attendance for the first time in three weeks. Representatives gathered over a spread of pretzels, animal crackers and fruit salad to address holiday planning, organizational improvements and funding approvals.
With the Disassembly coming up on Dec. 13, the council brainstormed ideas for festive activities such as a holiday karaoke and a trivia contest to be held during the gathering.
The Disassembly replaces the normal assembly period with winter-themed activities for students. Last year, the activities included drinking hot chocolate, making menorahs and a holiday movie.
The council then turned its attention to the school’s lost and found system. Freshman representative Zach Prober proposed adding more lost and found locations so the misplaced items don’t pile up in one place. Assistant Principal for School Life Quinn Killy suggested, humorously, that instead of adjusting the lost-found system students should simply stop losing their possessions. Ultimately, the council agreed that members would use their free periods to organize the lost-and-found pile to prepare it for donation to charity. (Prober is a staff writer for the Bit.)
SSC also approved $114 in supplemental funding for the Ethics Bowl club, adding to the $136 the group raised through a bake sale. Treasurer Jeremiah Farr confirmed the decision at the meeting, bringing the team’s total funding to $250 to be used for the one tournament they are attending this year.
Senior representatives met with their grade dean Marjorie Hale to finalize their plans for a gingerbread house grade-wide activity on Dec. 9. “We talked to her about logistics, scheduling and buying the materials,” senior representative Koen Yu said. According to Farr, Hale approved the plan.
The last 40 minutes of the meeting were spent with representatives collaborating on Google Slides for the Winter Raffle, which will run Dec. 9–20. The raffle will have daily prizes, shown in a slideshow, increasing in value until the final giveaway on Dec. 20.
During that time, SSC President Natalia Freedman discussed a Quizlet Plus subscription for all students and new healthy vending machines one-on-one with Killy.
According to Freedman, technology specialist Mauricio Mantilla is exploring multiple study-platform options, including Quizlet Plus. Freedman added that Killy is currently in contact with the vending machine company. “Once we get the price set, and send a survey to the student body gauging interest, it could be very much happening,” she said.
