Chocolate Fondue

One of my favorite family traditions is fondue on New Year’s Eve—and, in particular, chocolate fondue for dessert. This stunning dish has flair and beauty, without requiring too much skill. It simply needs a thick chocolate sauce and a platter of bite-sized foods to dip. My family prefers an easy, luscious ganache made with heavy cream and chocolate chips. I find that higher quality semisweet chocolate melts best and contrasts well with the sweet things to dip. The ingredients listed below to dip are ideas and the measurements are inexact. Pick and choose the foods to your taste!

For the chocolate:

  1. 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
  2. 1 bag of semisweet chocolate chips (~10-12 oz)
  3. 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

For the foods to dip:

  1. 1 orange
  2. 1 cup pineapple
  3. 1 cup marshmallows
  4. 1 cup pound cake
  5. 1/2 cup candied ginger
  6. 1 cup apple or pear
  7. 1 cup raspberries
  8. 1 cup banana
  9. 1 cup dried fruit

Instructions:

  1. Prepare fruit and other foods by cutting into bite-sized pieces. Arrange on a plate.
  2. Heat cream in a large saucepan or pot to a simmer.
  3. Add in chocolate and let sit submerged for 30-60 seconds. Then begin to slowly stir until combined fully.
  4. Add in vanilla extract and stir to combine.
  5. Serve chocolate sauce hot and enjoy!

Yields about 4 large servings.
